A collectable early model with the chrome exterior mirrors, NZ new This car had a lot of money spent 15 years ago, stripped to bare metal and repainted, garaged and only travelled a few hundred kms since. Excellent body and floors Has not been driven for about 5 years and it needs the fuel changing and a good tune.I am loosing the storage space so the Jag has to go.

I bought the car from the guy that imported it in January 2020. My initial plan was to give it a huge service and replace hoses, fuel lines, go through the fuel system, etc.

Although it looks like a previous owner had some trouble getting the engine to run right (it ran like a pig when it got hot on the way home), I found lots of reasons why: the auxiliary air valve was seized, couple of injector connectors were incorrectly fitted, most were damaged or loose, one throttle rod was bent, fuel was old, all plugs were black. Quite likely the ignition amp was cooking too. Some fuel weeps in the engine bay wasn't good...One downpipe had been welded and the sealing rings on the manifolds are totalled. All will be replaced.

I've now decided to remove the engine to detail the engine and paint the engine bay. The injectors have been sent off to be rebuilt. All the ancillaries and radiator have been removed. The ancillaries will be rebuilt. Every bolt, bracket and component that can be removed from the engine and engine bay is currently being rebuilt, painted, zinc plated or polished.

Good news: the fuel smell was from a leaking pump (now replaced with new) and the tanks are both leak free (though they will be sent off and resealed).

Rust wise: the car is amazing. The floors are not perfect and there is an area that has to be dealt with on one rear wing bottom. The subframes, crossmember, radiator support, headlight pods, engine bay, are perfect. Even the heat shields over the prop unscrewed nicely.

This is an amazingly sound car that deserves to be preserved which is what is happening now. I'd be amazed to see another early car that has original steel as good as this car.

Front subframe now removed. In excellent condition with no rust or holes. Body and box sections revealed by its' removal show the metal all to be truly in excellent condition.
