For Sale on eBay UK on August 08, 2015. Asking UKL 1,900 as a starting bid with No Reserve. Has 97,410 miles.

1987 JAGUAR XJ-SC 3.6 CABRIOLET. RARE 5-SPEED MANUAL. GREY. NEW MOT. A great opportunity to buy a classic jaguar which runs very well and has just been given a full MOT yesterday. It needed wiper blades and welding to one jacking point. There is a story as to why I have this and why I am selling it which I will tell you if you wish. Suffice to say that I sort of inherited it and I have no need for it, nor do I have the space to keep it. It is in a garage at present but must be moved soon therefore I put it in for the MOT to see what it needed and was pleasantly surprised when it passed so easily. It was driven to the garage from ten miles away and drove fine. I have no experience of what to expect it to feel like, but mechanically it seems to be all ok. The engine starts easily, runs and ticks over as it should. There are no nasty noises or misfires. It seems to run very well. The brakes and handbrake are good. It has just passed the MOT so all the essential electrics also work. I have a photographic record of a lot of body work done in the past however the paint is now faded and someone has run a key down one side leaving a nasty scratch. There is evidence of past work and the general appearance is a bit tired. There is rust on the door frames and around the edges of the doors. I do have two spare doors which would be available by separate negotiation. So it will need to be given some attention to restore it to glory. It would be very much worth the effort though. Overall the bodywork and structure are sound if not beautiful. The interior is similarly in need of some TLC although everything is there and appears to work correctly. The headlining and dash and woodwork are mostly undamaged but could be improved by a thorough clean. The alloy wheels are in good condition. The tires are legal and useable. The rear window in the soft top needs replacing however I have a template for this and a sheet of new plastic. It just needs to be cut and stitched into place. As you can see the Targa tops can be removed, and the retractable roof mechanism works as it should. There is a little history with the car, as well as most old MOTS to verify the mileage of 97,000. In short this car could be used as it is however it is a good basis for someone who could restore it. A decent respray would transform it. As I said earlier, there is a story to why I have the car. It involves the brother of a close friend, who had a collection of older cars and who recently died. I am not looking for top money for this car, just to have my garage back and to help my friend sort things out. I understand that the number plate - FIL6390 - is worth £ 300 or £ 400 so that is a bonus.

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
