Have just bought this car in the last few days. Looks to be in need of a lot of tlc. Appears to have original Hong Kong issue odometer showing just over 43,000 kms. Service history, albeit a little patchy is consistent with this figure.

Current 2017 Hong Kong owner is a member of the XJS Club in the UK photo in the February 2017 issue of the XJS Club Magazine.

Previously on eBay UK June 18, 2016. Has an Unknown Reserve Price. Location is UK, Sussex, Horsham.  UKL 11,000 with 24,000 original miles.

1987 Jaguar XJ-SC, 3 Owners, and only 24,000 miles from new. Very original, interesting history. I had intended to keep this car forever but sadly I can’t justify keeping it. The car runs beautifully and comes with a brand new MOT. As far as we can tell the car was sold new from the Jaguar main dealer in Hong Kong and remained with its first owners for most of its life. We have a file of service history documents and repair bills (much of it in Chinese) to go with the car. After return or sovereignty in 1997 the car returned to the UK and passed into my keeping in 2009 via just one other owner ( a friend of the original owner). As far as I can tell the second owner seems to have never used it. Obviously there can’t have been much opportunity for speed or long drives in Hong Kong and so it is not surprising that it has done such an incredibly low mileage and feels like it is hardly run-in. I would encourage anyone considering making an offer for this car to test drive it first. The car runs smoothly with no knocks or rattles, and like new. It is incredibly smooth inside even with the roof down. I have accidentally done 90 in it once simply because it was so smooth and quiet that I didn’t realise that I was speeding. This may be the fastest that this 140+ mph car has ever been pushed. For those not familiar with the XJS-C, this was Jaguars first attempt at a convertible XJS. It is strictly a two seater although many have been converted into four seaters. The hood has a folding rear section and two lift off roof panels over the driving compartment. My favourite configuration is to leave the lift off panels in place car and fold the rear hood to give a very civilised ride with the hood down. There is an original stowage bag in the boot for the lift out panels. Very few seem to have survived. The interior has hardly been sat in with firm, almost unworn seats and the carpets show no wear or fading. Underneath it is the same story, the car is in great shape. There is some minor surface rust here and there but nothing serious to worry over- the car has never been on a salted road. A good job for the next owners would be a weekend underneath with a wire brush and some chassis paint and then some wax oil. Even the exhausts are the original Jaguar ones and given the mileage it is not surprising that there seem to be no mechanical faults to list. There are some negative points to mention. The air conditioning does not work. I have been told that the air-con clutch is stuck through lack of use and can be repaired. The rear bumper has started to rust, they all do- a replacement from eBay would not be too expensive and are quite easy to change over. The front and rear lower quarters plus the driver’s door are just beginning to rust, repairs would be around £ 1000 plus paint so not too expensive and worth doing before they become serious problems in years to come. There are a few other small rust bubbles here and there, corner of boot gutter etc. The upper bodywork has a few dents here and there which I understand were from things being dropped on it when it was stored by the previous owner. The paintwork still has a good shine on it but there are some paint faults over the wings and bonnet below the top coat. Long term it would be worth re-spraying but if you keep it in a garage, you probably won’t see them. The important thing to bear in mind is that there is no deep structural corrosion to deal with unlike the average Jaguar sold in the UK. A common fault is that the fuel pipes for the injectors cracked and if not sorted out can leak fuel. I have been given an estimate of £ for this to be repaired by a proper Jaguar mechanic. They are currently NOT leaking but are getting on a bit. The varnish of the dashboard has become cracked and needs re-doing. A good furniture restorer should have no problem in restoring the veneer. Finally the original hood is faded but still fits well. However, the rear window needs renewing as it recently cracked through age. I have been given an estimate of £ 250 for this to be repaired by a trimmer which did not seem too bad. I am happy to get these repairs done for the new owner if required so that it is ready for the summer – please ask. In summary this is an incredibly low mileage example of a rare open-top Jaguar that has a long MOT and feels and drives as if it were new. For investment purposes a low mileage car with no modifications is always a good bet long term over a restored one. The next owner could either get all the above faults sorted out straight away or alternatively wait for sunny days to arrive and hit the road for the summer first. Alternatively, keep it as an investment- this model is tipped on the internet to become very desirable. The car is currently stored on an area with private roads and so a test drive would be possible. I am very sorry to see it go. Since the auction started this car has failed it's MOT on a small collection of easy to fix points including handbrake needs adjusting, one tail light out and, most annoying of all, the tyre that quick fit fitted is the wrong size. All faults will be rectified this week and the car will be sold with a full years MOT".
