1986 Jaguar XJS Cabriolet
Result: PASSED IN
EngineV12, 5343cc Gearbox 4-speed automatic Body Work Two-door cabriolet Colour White Interior Fawn Trim Leather Wheels Alloy Brakes Discs Description
Powered exclusively by Jaguar's proven V12 engine, the first XJ-S appeared in 1975, but struggled for sales in the wake of the fuel crisis and a six-cylinder version of the coupe appeared in 1981. For 1982 John Egan gave Jaguar customers what they wanted by adding wood trim to the interior, more leather everywhere and chrome trim on the bumpers and windows. In 1983, a new cabriolet version named the XJ-SC was introduced with Jaguar's new AJ6 engine. In this model the coupe's rear jump seats were eliminated, making the XJ-SC only a 2-seater car. The XJ-SC was not strictly a full convertible, as it had a non-removable centre targa-type structure and fixed cant rails above the doors, along with fixed rear quarter windows. A V12 XJ-SC did not emerge until 1985 and a special full convertible version called a Hess & Eisenhardt XJS was offered through dealers. In 1988 Jaguar replaced the XJ-SC targa-type model with a two-seater full convertible. TWR Racing capitalized on its racing successes with the V12 coupe in the early-mod 1980s by offering XJ-S and XJ-SC owners a variety of performance and styling enhancements to their coupe and cabriolet models.
