1988 JAGUAR XJ-S V12 CONVERTIBLE
KEY FACTS
A stylish 1980s convertible, this XJ-S presents in superb condition for its age and has relatively low mileage.
Under the bonnet sits the ‘HE’ variant of the 5.3-litre V12 engine, producing up to 295bhp and coupled to a three-speed automatic transmission.
The vendor reports the car comes from an enthusiast owner of 17 years, a period in which it has been fastidiously maintained, gaining accolades as a show car.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
The red paintwork over a cream leather interior is complemented with a black fabric hood and tonneau cover.
The power hood functions as it should do, and the car also has electric windows, heated and electrically adjustable seats, and cruise control.
An Alpine head unit sits in place of the factory unit.
The original spare wheel, complete with cover, and original tool kit are present, as are the original owner’s manual and a wealth of service records.
CONDITION
There is no known bodywork damage.
The paint is in excellent condition, and the vendor believes that the scuttle panel beneath the windscreen has been repainted in the past.
The interior is believed to be original and is in remarkable condition, with very few signs of wear. There are minor scratches to the chrome door sill embellishments and very light creasing to the leather seats.
There are no known mechanical or electrical faults.
The most recent MOT test was on 19 July 2021 at 78,227 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories whatsoever.
SERVICE HISTORY
The most recent service was carried out by Jaguar specialist J. P Jaguar Services Ltd of London in June 2021, during which the water pump, hoses, thermostats and gaskets, front brake discs, pads and callipers, offside rear lower wishbone bushes, all drive belts, and the spark plugs were replaced with new items. The oil filter and oil were also changed, and the brake fluid and coolant also renewed. Four new tyres were also fitted in June 2021.
The vendor reports detailed service records accompany a large folder of invoices for routine and remedial maintenance carried out during the vehicle’s lifetime.
SUMMARY
This Jaguar XJ-S V12 Convertible is a wonderful example of the marque’s 1980s flagship open-top cruiser. Presented in a condition that belies its age, it is ready to entertain and delight as either a weekend toy or a show car, and it would make a stunning addition to any collection.
