67,778 MILES, ON EBAY 04/07, SELLER WRITES:Offered here is an exotic automobile with a remarkable combination of rare features and low mileage. This model was offered for sale only in Europe to provide a nimble, sporty, lightweight alternative to the V12 versions typically available in the USA. This particular car was manufactured by Jaguar in late 1985, and was imported (with all of the requisite conversions) in 1986 by the original owner. As the second owner, I have all of the original documents and records pertaining to the import process and licensing in the state of Washington. I also can provide service records covering the lifespan of the car, as well as a full set of original Jaguar service manuals specific to this model.

This car is one of just 782 of its type manufactured during 1985, and one of fewer than 9,000 built altogether during the period 1982 to 1991. In addition to being more than 200 pounds lighter than the V12 versions, it features a Getrag 5-speed manual transmission, sportier suspension and unique perforated alloy wheels, as well as the usual XJ-S features: rack & pinion steering, four-wheel independent suspension and four-wheel disk brakes (with the rear disks mounted inboard to reduce unsprung weight.)

Options and features of interest include:
◦ 3.6L, overhead cam, in-line aluminum 6
with Bosch fuel injection
◦ Getrag 5-speed manual transmission
◦ A/C, updated to R-134a
◦ All leather interior
◦ Wood interior trim
◦ Michelin MXV4 tires rated at 160 mph
◦ Perforated alloy wheels, including spare
◦ Power windows
◦ Power door locks
◦ Remote entry system
◦ Rear defroster
◦ Rear fog lamps
◦ Cibie halogen headlamps
◦ Blaupunkt sound system
◦ Trip computer

Maintenance History

Maintenance records are available covering the lifespan of the car. Work performed by the regional Jaguar Dealer includes a four-wheel alignment, replacement of ball joints, front calipers, front shocks, clutch and pressure plate, oil-cooler pipe and oil-pressure sending units -- NOS parts used throughout. With one exception (A/C -- see Disclosures) there is nothing presently requiring service on the car.

Important Disclosures

As evident on the nameplate of the vehicle, the date of manufacture was November 1985. This is consistent with the serial (VIN) number of the vehicle (SAJJNAEC8CC120881) which, if interpreted by UK standards indicates a 1986 vintage. However, US VIN methodology misinterprets this vehicle's model year as 1984, and it is so licensed by the state of Washington, which has issued me a clear title. Further information about the interpretation of VIN numbers is available in the publication "Experience in a Book: Help for the Jaguar XJ-S Owner" (www.jag-lovers.org/xj-s/book/Jaguar.html).

Although properly equipped with emission controls and equipment, the vehicle was neither designed nor intended to meet Washington air quality standards, and despite being in excellent mechanical condition, it usually has not passed emission tests. However, a waiver is available, providing that a minimum investment (approximately $100 for work performed by a qualified shop) is made to reduce emission levels. This vehicle is subject to only one more emission test, in September 2008, after which it is exempt from the testing requirement in the state of Washington.

The A/C compressor needs replacement. I have not replaced it because I presume the new owner would prefer to have it covered by his/her own replacement warranty. The remainder of the A/C system is in working order, having been converted to R134-a and serviced less than two years ago.

This vehicle has been driven daily by the current owner. As one would expect, the exterior finish has imperfections, including some supermarket dings and paint chips. The body is, however, absolutely rust free. The interior is in beautiful condition, and is smoke-free.

Note that the Lucas Epitest engine analyzer pictured is not included in the auction and is not for sale.

Car returns to ebay 2/17/12
cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1986-XJS-Getrag-5-Speed-70K-miles-Excellent-throughout-r ...
Current bid $3,650 reserve not met, 6 bids 4 days left in auction. Now said to be in Portland, Oregon.

Sellers description:
1986 Jaguar XJS. This car was imported to the US by InterCorp Europe in 1986 and delivered to a customer in the Seattle area. Always garaged, the car is a good of example of the benefits that come from Pride of Ownership. With just 70K original miles, the car is very well preserved and is an excellent performer on the road. As you know, what sets this XJ apart is the Getrag manual transmission. 5 speeds were not available for the US market and it was worth it for the original owner to jump through the regulatory hoops to bring this car in legally. The 5 speed really transforms this car, fulfilling the promise of its original design as a sporting 2+2 coupe.

The paint on this Jaguar is mostly original, the exception being the hood. I suspect it was repainted due to rock chips, as I have seen no evidence of damage underneath or anywhere on the nose. The original paint shows some age related flaws here and there but for the most part looks pretty good. Expect to find a few door dings, some touched in chips and some discoloration to the factory applied beltline sticker. The car does make a strong impression but after 25 years it's not perfect. For a silver, it has a very fine metallic flake, almost imperceptible, which makes the car sometimes appear as a true gray instead of silver, it's very unique. Having original paint means you don't have to be concerned with overspray, sloppy tape work or poor prep - what you see it what you get and this car has no stories to tell. The body on this Jag is very impressive, having zero rust issues, you can tell right away that it's a west coast car that has been garaged.

The sought after Pepperpot wheels are in excellent, unmarked condition. Tires are a matched set of Michelin MXV4's.

The door jamb contains the data plates relating to the car's importation. The speedometer was changed on June 30th, 1986 from kmh to mph, and unlike some imported cars, the mileage reading at the switch was only 81 kilometers ( 50 miles), assuring that this is indeed a low mile car.

All of the glass on the car are original Triplex pieces and they are all in excellent condition, with no scratches, chips or hard water marks - just crystal clear throughout.

The interior is all original and in terrific condition. The leather seating has taken on a nice patina with no rips or cracks. The carpet is in great shape and all of the weatherstripping is still like new. The car is water tight in the rain.

All of the electrical components in this car are working correctly. Horn, wipers, rear defrost, lights, signals, trip computer - all working. The power windows work well and the car has remote locking and an alarm. The climate control works at all settings but I can't vouch for the state of the AC this time of year. The radio works but the power antenna doesn't, limiting signal strength. The wood trim in this car is like new with no clouding or cracking in the varnish, really in terrific condition.

All of the gauges operate correctly and show good readings. All warning lights work. All interior lighting works. The dash pad is free of cracks or splits.

Both door panels are in great shape. The trunk contains the original spare and jacking equipment.

The 3.6L inline 6 combined with the Getrag transmission produced a weight savings that brought performance levels on par with its 12 cylinder siblings, a fair trade if you ask me. This motor fires to life instantly and runs excellent. The car runs cools, brakes well, and shifts smootly in and out of all gears. This is a super road car, cruising 60mph in 5th gear at 2000rpm. It's also at home on back roads, with a suspension that's absolutely neutral when cornering, I can tell you that the handling characteristics of this car are grin inducing!

The car's AC system has been converted to R-134.

This undercarriage is rust free, showing no signs of accident damage or repair. Perfect pans and rockers, original factory exhaust, really just the way you want to find them.

This Jaguar XJS is a European-market example that was manufactured in November 1985 and imported to the US in August 1986. The car was initially registered in Washington as a 1984 model-year Jaguar, which was attributed by a previous owner to a misinterpretation of the VIN. It was purchased by the seller in 2012 from Cascadia Classic in Portland, Oregon. The car is powered by a 3.6-liter inline-six mated to a five-speed manual transmission and is finished in Rhodium Silver over a black leather interior. Maintenance in the past year reportedly included the replacement of all four brake calipers, the water pump and hoses, and the cylinder head gasket. This XJS is now offered with service records, fog lamps, a car cover, an aftermarket remote entry fob, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name listing it as a 1984 model.

The exterior is finished in Rhodium Silver with sport stripes and features the center-bulge hood unique to the inline-six. The seller notes clearcoat fade on the roof, decklid, and hood, along with dings on the door panels and chips on the leading edge of the hood.

XJ12 16″ diamond-spoke wheels were installed under current ownership and wear Continental ExtremeContact tires mounted in 2012. All four brake calipers reportedly were replaced in 2018.

The interior features black leather upholstery with anthracite carpets and burl walnut accents on the dashboard and doors. Equipment includes a heated rear window, power windows and locks, and a trip computer. A Rattler keyless-entry system was added by a previous owner, and a Sony CD stereo with Bluetooth and an Apple Lightning port was installed in place of the factory radio. The air conditioning reportedly was converted to R134a refrigerant under previous ownership, although it and the automatic antenna are noted to be inoperative.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer and a 7k-rpm tachometer flanking four vertically-set gauges displaying readouts for temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and battery charge. The six-digit odometer shows approximately 80k miles, 10k of which were added by the seller.

The 3.6-liter inline-six is equipped with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 222 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque when new. Service in 2018 reportedly included replacement of the water pump, hoses, and the cylinder head gasket. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Getrag five-speed manual transmission.

The November 2019 Carfax report shows no accidents or other issues, importation through Long Beach, California, in 1986, and registration history in Washington and Oregon beginning in January 1987.
