Car at auction 6/24
www.brightwells.com/timed-sale/5530/lot/701975%2ftimed-sale%2f5530
Auction description:
1996 Jaguar XJS 4.0 Celebration
Registration Number N2XJS
Mileage/Hours 73367 miles Warranted
Engine Number 9LPFRB156346
Chassis Number SAJJNAED3EJ225868
Gearbox Automatic
Estimate: £7,000-8,000
Two owners from new, the current for 26 years; 73,367 miles with 15 service stamps; lovely colour combination and smart interior; new sills; scope for paintwork improvement; 'XJS' plate included
Supplied new by Marshall Group Limited of Cambridge in July 1996, this late model Jaguar XJS comes to us in ‘run-out’ 4.0 Celebration specification, often considered the ultimate variant, and is finished in striking Kingfisher, sat on its original 16” flat-face alloy wheels.
Under the bonnet, we find the durable 4.0 litre AJ16 six-cylinder petrol engine which develops a creamy 238bhp and 382NM of torque driving the rear wheels via four-speed ZF automatic transmission.
Inside this Celebration model, we find biscuit colour leather interior piped in mushroom, light Elm wood trim, half-timbered steering wheel, electric seats, cruise control, electric mirrors, electric windows, air conditioning, heated rear window and original radio/cassette player. We did note the oil pressure gauge is not working.
The car largely presents well and has been with our vendor for the last 26 years since June 1998 (the car having just one former keeper) and shows just 73,367 miles. The paintwork shows some signs of age/fatigue with crazing to parts of the bonnet, roof and boot top as pictured but bar this looks well.
The history file includes the V5C confirming just one former keeper, the Owner’s pack with manuals and service book recording 16 stamps inc. PDI, the last in February 2024 at 73,361 miles by Cliff Edwards Motor Engineer of Kington. Prior to this and three other stamps, the last 12 were all Jaguar main dealers. The book also shows a further two stamps for anti-corrosion checks.
In addition, the file includes an early purchase order dated June 1998 including PX of another XJS, photos of replacement sill sections being fitted; a selection of bills, 13 old MOTs and current MOT valid until February 2025 recording one advisory.
Bills of note include £1,930 spent in Feb-24 on repairs to the floor pan and replacement sills (x2), bill for the sill sections (£408), inner arch sections, new battery in Feb-22, service work and other bills for works undertaken dating back to the late 90s.
Bar the areas of tired paint mentioned, the car looks smart and largely original and boasts an MOT until Feb 2025, considerable history file, just two owners from new and sensible mileage. Starting promptly and running well as we have moved it around on site, it even comes with an appropriate 'XJS' number plate.
