Car offered at:

Auction description:
1982 JAGUAR XJ-S HE V12 COUPE
A well-maintained example of the classic British grand tourer, finished in a stylish colour combination.
Under the bonnet is the 5.3-litre naturally aspirated ‘High Efficiency’ V12, delivering around 295bhp to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.
This XJ-S Coupe is fitted with a stainless-steel Larini exhaust and sports an aftermarket but period-correct tilt/slide sunroof.
As the odometer only has the capacity to display five digits, the true mileage is believed to be 128,984 miles.
EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
This XJ-S HE is finished in the charming hue of Cobalt Blue over a Biscuit hide-trimmed cabin with wooden inlays, and rides on a set of refurbished 15-inch ‘Starfish’ alloy wheels shod with new Nankang tyres.
The specification includes electrically operated windows and a Panasonic radio-cassette player.
A period-correct ‘Topline’ tilt-and-slide manually operated sunroof has been fitted, along with a stainless-steel Larini exhaust system.
Included in the sale is the original owner’s manual and brochure, service book, spare wheel, toolkit, and a raft of receipts dating back to 1982.
CONDITION
There is no known bodywork damage.
The condition of the Cobalt Blue paintwork is described as good, with some light corrosion on the boot lid, the sills, and the nearside rear wheel arch. There is also some lacquer peel on the boot lid, in addition to a few imperfections on the nearside rear quarter panel and on one of the wheel arches, where there is a crack alongside a bumper trim.
Having been refurbished, the alloy wheels are free of any major imperfections, and the tyres are new.
Moving inside, the original Biscuit hide-trimmed interior is in good condition overall, with some wear and a small tear on the driver’s seat bolster, and a small hole in the base of the passenger seat. The rear portion of the headlining appears to be sagging.
There are no known mechanical or electrical faults.
The most recent MOT test was conducted on 22 April 2021 at 127,983 miles, when the car passed following the replacement of a coil spring and some attention to the brake lights, headlamp aim, and rear seat belt. Advisories noted slightly defective headlamp reflectors, which the seller notes may need replacing soon.
SERVICE HISTORY
This XJ-S’ most recent service was carried out in January 2022 at 127,849 miles by Ric Wood Motorsport, who replaced the engine oil, oil filter, spark plugs, and front suspension springs, as well as repairing the fuel tank.
Ric Wood Motorsport also performed an engine oil and filter change in April 2021 at 127,810 miles.
During the car’s current ownership, a Larini stainless-steel exhaust has been fitted and its wheels have been refurbished.
SUMMARY
This Jaguar XJ-S HE is a good example of the marque’s timelessly elegant grand tourer, mating a refined V12 with a smooth-shifting transmission. While its next owner may wish to attend to a few cosmetic items in due course, this recently serviced XJ-S is reported to be in sound mechanical order, and would make for a stylish weekend cruiser as well as a tasteful addition to any collection of British modern classics.
