Bonhams, Collectors' Motor Cars and Automobilia, 8 March 2009 : An automatic transmission model finished in Coronet Gold with Country Tan leather interior, this V12-engined XJ-S Coupé was first owned by a retired Salisbury pharmacist, Mr D A Covell, who purchased it new from Jaguar main agents, Henley's of Salisbury for use in his retirement. Mr Covell used his Jaguar until 1988 when it was placed in storage, the recorded mileage having reached circa 16,000 by that time. In August 1998 the second owner, a member of Salisbury Cathedral's staff, acquired the XJ-S from the late Mr Covell's estate. Having enjoyed the car for some 20,000 miles, he now, because of advancing years, feels the time has come to acquire a smaller, more manageable vehicle.
'A322 HFX' is offered with heritage certificate confirming all-correct details; old/current Swansea V5/V5C registration documents; MoT to January 2010; and eight expired MoT certificates confirming the 36,498 miles recorded. A truly exceptional, unmolested example presented in 1st class condition mechanically, bodily and internally, this lovely XJ-S represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire an appreciating future classic at relatively modest cost.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
