For sale on AutoTrader USA March 19, 2014. Asking USD $ 9,980 with 66,000 original miles. Car is now located in Los Gatos, California. Listing says "Although the Jaguar XJS was introduced in 1975, it was not until almost ten years later that an open version of the car appeared. The earliest cars featured a unique roof design with removable hard front roof sections and a soft foldable top at the rear. Just 3,864 examples were built, and they were available in the United States only for the 1986 and 1987 model years. This car is an excellent original XJ-SC, which has been in California since 1990 when it was sold at Cole European in Walnut Creek, California, to a woman in Orinda, California. She kept the car until its current owner purchased it in 2002. He has put a few thousand miles on the car since then. The car is in extremely nice original condition throughout. The body is straight and appears to be wearing its original paint, which is very nice considering this. There are a few chips and scratches but it has excellent luster and makes a strong overall impression. The brightwork is in nice original condition with a few scratches and the glass and lights are in excellent original condition. The top is also in great shape. The car sits on chrome wire wheels. The interior is completely original and in excellent shape. The wood has no cracks or other deterioration and is still glossy. The leather is supple and shows some patina and remains supple with light wear. The dashboard and instruments are in excellent cosmetic shape, although the speedometer and odometer recently stopped working, as evidenced by the fact that a service record for the car shows that it had 1200 fewer miles than currently shown in July of 2013. The carpets are excellent original items and the factory overmats are included. An aftermarket wood-rimmed steering wheel has been installed. The engine is stock in appearance and in good driver condition nothing untoward in appearance. The trunk is in excellent original shape, with good carpet, correct spare and spare cover, top boot, and a canvas bag for the removable roof sections". It has 64,811 Original Miles.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
