This 1989 Jaguar XJS convertible shows 35k miles and is finished in Signal Red over a black leather interior. Power comes from a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and equipment includes a power-operated top, cruise control, a trip computer, and automatic climate control. The car reportedly spent the last 11 years in a North Carolina collection before its acquisition by the seller five months ago. This XJS is now offered with factory literature, a Carfax report, and a clean North Carolina title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Signal Red with a black convertible top. The seller reports that the top’s hydraulic pump has been rebuilt. An accident listed on the Carfax report in 1994 involved a front impact, and the seller notes evidence of paintwork on the front fenders and hood. Rock chips are reported behind the rear wheels. Exterior equipment includes fog lights, US-spec rubber-capped bumpers, and pre-facelift quad headlights.

Factory 15″ wheels feature Jaguar center caps and wear Pirelli P4000 tires that are said to be in need of replacement. The seller reports that the tie rod ends and the right-front brake caliper were replaced during his ownership.

The interior is upholstered in black leather with burl wood trim on the dashboard, doors, and center console. The seller notes that the passenger-side seat bottom has been recovered. Equipment includes a Jaguar cassette deck, cruise control, and a Nynex car phone.

Instrumentation includes a bank of drum-style secondary gauges, a 160-mph speedometer, and a 7k-rpm tachometer. Approximately 35k miles are shown on the six-digit odometer, fewer than 100 of which were added by the seller.

For the US market, the 5.3-liter V12 engine made 262 horsepower when new. It is paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The seller reports that the fuel-injection system was serviced during his ownership with rebuilt injectors and a new fuel pump, filter, and hoses. Other work is said to have included service of the coolant crossover pipe with new hoses. The sump tank has been removed and is included.

The Carfax report begins with the 1994 accident and lists registration history in Florida, New York, and North Carolina.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
