Car on BAT
bringatrailer.com/listing/1989-jaguar-xjs-20/_source=dailymail&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2018-10-20
Current Bid: $8,500 Ends In: 6 days

Auction description:
This 1989 Jaguar XJS convertible is as a largely stock 2-owner example finished in red over tan and showing 20,500 indicated miles, fewer than 500 of which have been driven by the seller since purchasing the car in a January 2018 BaT auction. Power comes from a 5.3-liter V12 mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission, and a new battery was installed shortly after etc seller’s purchase along with a fresh set of tires. This XJS is offered with a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.

Bodywork is finished in red with polished trim, a power-operated black fabric top, and rubber-capped chrome bumpers. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage. A ding is noted near the middle of the passenger door.

A new set of 235/60 BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires were mounted over the stock 15″ basketweave wheels in January of this year. The car was reportedly kept in a climate-controlled garage by both owners.

The interior is trimmed in tan leather with contrasting carpets and burl wood across the dash and center console. Flaws noted by the seller included separated piping on the driver’s seat and a low windshield washer fluid light that stays illuminated.

The cockpit retains factory switchgear and instrumentation, including an odometer which indicates just under 20,500 miles.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 263 horsepower with 278 lb-ft of torque for the North American market, and is linked to the rear wheels through a 3-speed automatic transmission. The seller had the oil and filter changed, a new battery installed, and new fuel regulators fitted following his January 2018 purchase.

The Carfax shows the car spent time in Arizona and Illinois before being moved to Florida earlier this year. No accidents or damage repair have been reported.

21K-Mile Muscular Grand Tourer: 1989 Jaguar XJ-S Convertible

VIN SAJNV4847KC157579

Odometer 21,056

Engine 5.3-liter OHC V-12

Transmission GM THM400 three-speed automatic

Exterior Color Signal Red

Interior Beige leather

Auction Type Reserve

This 1989 Jaguar XJ-S Convertible shows 21,056 miles on its odometer. With images that showcase the glossiness of the original Signal Red paint and unmolested Beige leather interior, this desirable V-12-powered grand tourer remains just as how the craftsmen in Coventry intended. The seller is representing this vehicle on behalf of a friend, who is the third and current owner for the past four years.

Jaguar’s coveted V-12 displaces 5.3 liters in this 1989 XJ-S and features HE (High Efficiency) design technology, centering on fast-burn combustion chambers. This naturally aspirated 60-degree 12-cylinder engine incorporated single overhead camshafts and electronic fuel injection to yield 262 horsepower when new. The seller states that there are no running issues and that the engine starts and runs well without any smoke or leaks. Transmitting the smooth power delivery is a robust GM Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 three-speed automatic transmission that reportedly shifts seamlessly and is free of any defects, according to the seller. A recent “general service” included new fuel line gaskets, and new upper and lower coolant hoses, per the seller.

From the front, this XJ-S features the original ground-hugging front spoiler that sits below the prominent bumper and four headlight arrangement. The low hood leads into the slender grille design to create a wider stance and was also a hallmark feature that made all XJ models all the more aggressive looking. The Signal Red bodywork appears to be free of major flaws, based on the detailed images provided by the seller, and the vehicle history report shows no accidents. The seller shares that the owner had a “massive detail” done to the car that included some PDR work to remove some small dings. The seller reports that the current owner had the folding convertible top replaced and that it now looks and works like new. All windows are said to be in very good original condition as all brightwork, lighting and functional items are noted to be in good condition. Based on the detailed images provided, no rust or corrosion is apparent and panel gaps appear consistent and proper.

The seller reports that the beige leather interior was recently reupholstered. The car is equipped with power-adjustable seats and the added fillip of burled walnut embellishments throughout the passenger cabin. Power window and seat controls are mounted on the center console, which flows rearward to the rear seats. The instrument cluster includes two analog gauges—a tachometer that is reported to be inaccurate and a speedometer that shows 21,056 miles on the odometer. The seller adds that the interior does not have any odors, damage or stains present.

This XJ-S benefits from a precise double-wishbone strut front suspension and the unique Jaguar independent rear axle design, fitted with coilover dampers, lower control arms, hub carriers with radius links, and captive wheel axles. Together, they were engineered to provide the optimum balance for both handling and comfort. Installed in 2018, BFGoodrich Radial T/A tires envelop the original alloy wheels and measure P235/60R15. The rack-and-pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes are said to be in proper working order with no issues noted.

This vehicle will be sold on a clean Nevada title in the owner’s name. The new owner will also receive the original owner’s manuals, a fresh set of keys recently ordered by the owner, and the Jaguar customer audio cassette. This 1989 Jaguar XJ-S Convertible offers that elusive combination of an elegant grand tourer with a muscular V-12.

This 1989 Jaguar XJS is finished in red over tan leather upholstery and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes a power-operated black soft top, automatic climate control, power-adjustable heated front seats, 15″ basketweave wheels, fog lights, and a factory cassette stereo. The car spent time in Illinois, Florida, and Texas, and was listed on BaT in January 2018 and again in October 2018 before being acquired by the current owner in 2020. This XJS is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a scale model, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Virginia title.

The car is finished in Signal Red with a power-operated black soft top with a glass rear window along with fog lights, a front air dam, chrome accents and bumpers, and dual exhaust outlets. The soft top, side mirrors, and headliner were replaced in 2020.

Factory 15″ basketweave wheels wear BFGoodrich tires. The car is equipped with four-wheel independent suspension and antilock disc brakes all around.

The cabin features heated and power-adjustable seats upholstered in tan leather with color-coordinated door panels. Burl wood veneers accent the dashboard, center console, and doors. Equipment includes cruise control, Jaguar-branded sill plates, power windows and door locks, and a factory cassette stereo. The seller notes the front passenger window functions intermittently and states the rear window will roll down but may not roll back up.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 22k miles, and the seller states the odometer is nonfunctional. Total mileage is unknown. The coolant and battery warning lights illuminate intermittently.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 263 horsepower with 278 lb-ft of torque. Ignition components are said to have been replaced in December 2019.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission.

Manufacturer’s literature and a 1:18 scale model of the V12 XJS are included in the sale.
