This 1988 Jaguar XJS features a period convertible conversion by Ohio-based coachbuilder Hess & Eisenhardt and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The car was delivered new to Manhattan Jaguar in Rockville, Maryland, and spent most of its time in Florida and Texas, where it was acquired by the seller from its second owner in 2016. This XJS shows 45k miles and is offered at no reserve with a window sticker, H&E sales sheet, service records, an accident-free Carfax report, and clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

Hess & Eisenhardt convertibles were commissioned by Jaguar and built between 1986 and 1988. Features included two separate fuel tanks positioned to allow the roof to retract, steel reinforcements behind the driver’s seat, and 20 lb. weights behind the headlights to eliminate harmonic resonance. This example is finished in Jet Black, and the Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage. Bubbles are noted by the seller at the bases of the doors and near the rear quarter windows.

Factory 15″ Starfish wheels wear Pirelli P4000 tires. The tan soft top features a heated glass rear window and is shown raised above. Additional features of the conversion include powered rear quarter windows, a carpeted package shelf, and a matching top cover.

The interior is trimmed in Barley leather with matching console and door panels and wood accents. A wood-rimmed 3-spoke Nardi steering wheel has been fitted in place of the factory 2-spoke wheel.

The 6-digit odometer reads just under 45k miles. The seller notes the air conditioning system does not blow cold.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory rated at 263 horsepower with 278 lb-ft of torque for the US market and is paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. A stack of receipts documenting past maintnenace is included in the sale.

A copy of the Hess & Eisenhardt sales sheet shows an MSRP of $55,000 as well as detailing included options and specifications.

The Carfax report lists ownership in Florida and Texas from new and indicates no history of accidents or other damage. The seller notes mileage errors in 1996 and 1998.

This 1988 Jaguar XJS features a convertible conversion performed by Ohio-based coachbuilder Hess & Eisenhardt and was acquired by the seller in an October 2018 BaT auction. The car has been refinished in black over reupholstered tan leather, and power is from a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional work performed during current ownership has consisted of replacing the soft top, braking components, multiple seals and gaskets, and ignition parts along with a transmission service and a conversion of the air conditioning system to use R134a refrigerant. This XJS is offered with a car cover, a top boot, manufacturer’s literature, service records, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

Hess & Eisenhardt convertibles were commissioned by Jaguar and built between 1986 and 1988. This example was refinished in black during current ownership, at which time rust was repaired on the left door and around the convertible top trim. Exterior features include fog lights, chrome-accented bumpers, dual-exhaust outlets, and a replacement tan soft top that can be seen lowered in the gallery below. Corrosion is present in the corners of both doors. A top boot is included in the sale.

Factory 15″ Starfish wheels wear Goodyear Assurance Ultratour tires. Work performed in November 2018 included replacement of the brake calipers, pads, and rotors at each corner along with the parking brake pads, inner and outer wheel seals, and power steering hoses.

The cabin features front seats that were reupholstered with Barley leather in April 2019, a replacement black headliner, tan carpets, and wood veneer accents on the dash, center console, and door panels. Amenities include electric windows and locks, cruise control, automatic climate control, an onboard computer, and a factory cassette stereo. The seller notes that the driver’s seat belt will not buckle intermittently and a stain is present on the interior of one of the windows. The air conditioning system was serviced in August 2019 with replacement of an expansion valve and the receiver drier as well as a conversion to use R134a refrigerant.

A wood-rimmed Nardi steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer and a tachometer along with gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and voltage. The seller states that the fuel gauge will not raise past the half-tank indicator. The six-digit odometer shows 46k miles, of which approximately 800 have been added by the seller. The Carfax report indicates a potential rollback in October 1999, and as a result total mileage is unknown.

The 5.3-liter V12 was factory-rated at 263 horsepower and 278 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. Work performed in November 2018 included replacement of oil pressure and fuel tank senders, front and rear crankshaft seals, a pinion seal, spark plugs and wires, distributor cap, PCV and heater control valves, and valve cover, oil pan, timing cover, and transmission pan gaskets. Changes of the transmission fluid and filter and engine oil have also been carried out during the seller’s ownership.

Manufacturer’s literature, service records, and a car cover are included in the sale.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage as well as the aforementioned potential odometer rollback and history in Florida and Texas.
