Vehicle Description
My good friend and neighbor, Bill, has put his heart and soul into his XJS, or "Winston" as he and his wife call the car.
Winston is a superb XJS; a fast and supple Gran Touring machine with the appointments of a fine British Gentleman's club:leather, walnut and the smooth power of a V-12. A car for grand departures, grand arrivals and a lot of fun in between.
No rust, ever, never smoked in, no accidents, ever, always garaged, and as Bill's immaculate garage floor testifies, no leaks.
And all of the Jaguar foibles attended to.
However there are now two Lexus in Bill's driveway and his wife is asking (with some vigor) why is the Jag hogging the garage? Here's what Bill has done to the car in his nine years of ownership:
Work done on Winston:
Recored radiator. Upgraded banjo bolts. New upgraded mechanical fan. Mechanical fan clutch. Stainless Steel crossover cooling pipe. 82 C thermostats (original 88C available) New top hat seals on water rails. Power steering piston replaced. Power steering bushings upgraded. Power steering hoses. Oil hoses. Front oil seal. Aluminum timing chain tensioner adjustment hole cover. Goretex oil pan gaskets. Goretex sandwich plate gaskets. Goretex valve cover gaskets. Upgraded banjo bolts. Aluminum halfmoon seals replaced.
New starter motor (lighter reduction geared. New GM alternator on Johns Cars bracket. New beefier Chrysler starter relay. Single Ducelier coil replaces 2 coil system. Distributor cleaned and refurbished. centrifugal advance cleaned, vacuum advance replaced. New Bourne upgrade TPS (throttle potentiometer sensor. GM HEI unit for Ignition Amplifier Unit. Magnecor Competition silicone sparkplug wires.
AAV (auxilliary air valve) refurbished. New thermostat. New vacuum hoses. 3” cold air induction. K&N air filters. Transmission fluid replaced. Vacuum modulator valve replaced. Rear transmission mount replaced. Air conditioner converted to R-134. Cruise control removed. New brake master cylinder. Brake fluid reservoir replaced with Mitsubishi unit. Brakes bled. Fuel injectors reconditioned 5 years ago. All but 1 fuel hose refurbished. Interior headliner replaced. Sheepskins provided by previous owner.
The XJS is underpriced now due to a reputation for niggling faults. This car has had all of those potential problems addressed and can only appreciate in value. It is ready to drive home whether you live in Fairbanks or Miami. If you prefer shipping we'll be happy to drive the car to the nearest Dependable Auto Shippers depot.
