Car now offered on BAT
bringatrailer.com/listing/1984-jaguar-xjs/
Current Bid: $3,084 Ends In: 9:39:04

Auction description:
This 1984 Jaguar XJS is finished in Black over Biscuit leather and powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a 3-speed automatic transmission. The seller acquired the car a year ago from its second owner, who purchased it as a non-runner in 2016 and reportedly commissioned a bare-metal repaint, mechanical work, new upholstery, and more. Records from January 2017 forward are said to document the refurbishment and routine maintenance including a March 2018 oil/filter change. This XJS is offered with two sets of keys, manuals, a period car phone, Coco mats, a Carfax report, and a clean Massachusetts title in the seller's name.

The exterior was refinished in black (PDE) after being stripped to bare metal, and several in-process photos are available in the gallery below. The seller points out chrome pitting on the rear bumper and door handles as well as a dent behind the driver-side front wheel.

Factory 15″ Starfish wheels wear new Presa PS01 215/70R15 tires. New front brake rotors are joined by replacement calipers, pads, and lines all around.

The seats were reupholstered with new leather in Biscuit (ADE), a fresh headliner was fitted, and new wood trim was sourced. The air conditioning system has been converted to R134a, the wiper motor has been rebuilt, and a new heater valve is in place.

The stock steering wheel fronts a cluster of six gauges supplemented with warning lights. A Sony head unit sits in the radio slot. The trip computer and cruise control are reportedly inoperative. Just over 100k miles are shown on the 6-digit odometer, about 2,500 of which have been added by the seller

The 5.3-liter V12 received a new fuel pump, lines, injectors, seals, and sump tank. In 2017 the transmission was rebuilt and its mounts were replaced. A replacement starter, ECU, temperature sensors, and battery were installed and the associated wiring looms were reportedly sorted. Cooling work included a new water pump, radiator, and coolant.

An engine tune-up included a new distributor cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. The exhaust system received new pipes, seals, and gaskets.

Underbody work included a steering rack rebuild along with replacement of the lower subframe plates, springs, shocks, tie rods, control arms, bushings, and ball joints. Hand brake components, including cables and shoes, have been replaced. Additional undercarriage photos are available in the gallery.

The Carfax report indicates no accidents or other damage, though a mileage discrepancy is noted in October 1999.

Private Party Or Dealer: Dealer

This 1984 Jaguar XJS is finished in Black over Biscuit leather and powered by a 5.3-liter V12 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car was previously sold on BaT in August 2018 and was later acquired by the selling dealer. The car was reportedly refurbished under previous ownership and features 15″ wheels, an aftermarket Sony stereo, power windows, locks, and mirrors, and cruise control. This XJS shows 103k miles and is offered at no reserve with a clean Carfax report and transferrable Connecticut registration.

The car was reportedly refinished in black (PDE) after being stripped to bare metal. Exterior features include chrome mirrors and bumper trim, dual exhaust outlets, and fog lights. The seller notes blemishes on the trunk lid and rear quarter panel, corrosion on the left side of the rear bumper, and flaking chrome plating on the grille.

Factory 15″ Starfish wheels wear 215/70 Presa PS01 tires. Polyurethane power steering rack bushings have been installed along with KYB Sport shocks at the rear.

The cockpit features seats reupholstered in Biscuit (ADE) leather as well as a replacement headliner and sun visors. Equipment includes air conditioning, cruise control, a Sony stereo, Coco mats, and power windows and locks. The air conditioning system was converted to R134a under previous ownership.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and battery charge. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows just over 103k miles, less than 50 of which were added by the selling dealer. The steering wheel shows signs of wear, and the odometer bezel shows hazing.

The 5.3-liter V12 produced 291 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque when new. A replacement starter, ECU, temperature sensors, and battery were installed in 2017. A fluid service was performed in preparation for sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed Turbo Hydramatic 400 automatic transmission. The transmission was reportedly rebuilt and its mounts replaced under previous ownership. The selling dealer notes that the catalytic converters have been removed and that there is a dent in the driver-side rocker panel from a misplaced jack.
