51248 MILES, ON EBAY 11/07

We were the people who won it on eBay and it's NOT a "Nice Driver", it BADLY overheated only 12 miles from the airport where we picked it up (in the dark unfortunatally) and when we got off the road in a place with good light we found that the paint which the seller had claimed was original and in excellent shape was actually covered in spider web cracks and lots of orange peel from a bad paint job now in need of re-doing. He claimed the fuzzy look of the paint in the auction pictures was from his poor quality camera and some minor oxidation that could be waxed out. His camera was poor quality but the fuzzy look REALLY is what the paint looks like and it's NOT oxidation, it's just a really bad paint job someone put on it that's now so old it's cracking all over and looks hazy (and it isn't going to wax or buff out). Most of the electronics either did not work or only worked intermitantly. Including the speedometer and odometer, meaning the claimed miles are probably not accurate. The inside smelled badly of burnt oil because of leaks allowing oil to run down over hot parts of the engine. The horn is operated via a cheapo button screwed to the dash up behind the steering wheel. Passenger window does not work most of the time, the fan for the heat and A/C only works on the highest setting, the drivers side mirror is jammed and can't be adjusted so you can see out of it even if you roll down the window and try and do it manually. It did appear basically rust free and with a full paint job and an engine rebuild and a LOT of other work it may someday make a nice car. The seller ended up having to offer us a different car and that one did not make it home either. The seller relisted it the very next day, still claiming the paint was original and in excellent condition. when I wrote and asked how he could claim that it ran great he said he had the "head caskets" fixed (and repeated it several times so the mispelling wasn't a typo, he really thinks it's "caskets" instead of gaskets) and the cooling system taken apart and properly flushed. NO one can have head gaskets on a V12 XJS replaced in ONE day, nor even a cooling system properly taken apart and flushed, much less on a weekend!

Spam prevention question (must be answered):
The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
