Car to be at auction 1/14
www.russoandsteele.com/collector-car/1990-Jaguar-XJ-S/70312

Auction description:
Scottsdale 2014
Consignment # 7137
VIN: SAJNW584XLC167690
Vehicle to be offered for Auction sale WITHOUT RESERVE and SOLD to the highest bidder January 15th-19th at Russo and Steele's 14th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction.

The consignor acquired this example from the original owner, who purchased it new in San Antonio, Texas, and it has remained a desirable Southwestern vehicle ever since then. During 2008, this Jaguar was upgraded by the San Antonio marque specialists at Victor's Service Center. Among the items addressed, the original GM Turbo-Hydramatic 400 three-speed automatic transmission was replaced by a newer-design GM Turbo-Hydramatic 700R4 four-speed automatic overdrive transmission taking fuller advantage of the Jaguar's V-12 power and flexibility. Cooling was enhanced with the addition of an aluminum radiator with dual electric cooling fans, and passenger comfort improved with installation of a Sanden air-conditioning compressor, plus a new air dryer, expansion valve, and associated hoses. The engine's induction system features modified air boxes with high-efficiency K&N reusable air filters for improved engine breathing and performance. Underpinnings were also improved with the addition of front cross-drilled vented brake rotors and new pads, as well as new shock absorbers, with adjustable units at the rear.

Since acquiring the vehicle, the consignor brought the car to Prescott, Arizona, and DeYoung European Motors have serviced it. Recent work included installation of a set of new fog lights, plus a new alternator and battery. According to the consignor, this is the second XJ-S they have owned and they are highly knowledgeable enthusiasts of the model and what is required to ensure they are properly maintained as highly enjoyable road cars. Best of all, with the overdrive automatic transmission, the Jaguar easily cruises along at just 1,800 engine revolutions at 70 mph on the highway while achieving a little over 20 miles to a gallon of gas, with all that V-12 power readily available!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
