ON EBAY 03/07
SELLER WRITES:
This is a superb and stunning signal red xjs v12 with black convertible top in outstanding original condition with very low miles. I purchased this car a year ago from a guy who had it and babied it for years after purchasing it from a Jaguar dealer in Scottdale AZ. I had it gone through and it needed next to nothing; I have replaced brake pads and it has almost brand new performance tires. I had the AC converted to R134 and recharged. I had the cruise control repaired (had a bad connection in the switch or something like that).

Problems, if yoy can call them that, are few: One interior light doesn't work; I've never checked it. If it sits for over a week without being driven, the battery discharges. Although the mechanic said he could find the power drain if given a blank check, I opted to install a small trickle charger in the trunk and if I'm letting it sit, I'll plug it in. For $30 I solved the problem. Once in awhile, the speedometer seems to briefly shut off, as if there is a loose a corroded connection, but since it works 95% of the time, I've not gotten it looked at. I think it's electronic and when this happened on my '87 it a was a corroded contact, pretty cheap to fix.

The paint is beautiful. A few small, barely noticeable rock chips, and a couple places where it looks slightly discolored from perhaps a decal - again hard to see. I haven't even tried to remove those marks. There is scuff on the side black bumper cover. I've tried to show these in the pics. The interior wood is superb, and the leather is supple and has no cracks. The top is in very nice condition and works perfectly; takes a flip of two handles and about 15 seconds to put it up or down.

These cars in such fine condition are becoming a rarity. I am selling due to divorce and taxes and it breaks my heart. You will love this machine, and believe me when I say that heads turn when you drive it. Own a work of automotive art!

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
