Private Party Or Dealer: Dealer

This 1991 Jaguar XJS convertible reportedly remained with its original owner in Florida before being acquired by the selling dealer in 2020 following 18 years in storage. It is finished in red with a black soft top over a beige interior and is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes fog lights, power-adjustable and heated seats, cruise control, and automatic climate control. Recommissioning performed by the selling dealer is said to include a brake service and replacement of the steering rack, spark plugs, ignition wires, and fluids. This XJS shows 22k miles and is now offered at no reserve with factory literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Florida title.

The car is finished in Signal Red (CFC) and is fitted with a power-operated black soft top. Exterior equipment also includes fog lights, chrome side mirrors, a polished fuel filler cap, and a powered antenna. The selling dealer describes evidence of prior paintwork on a fender and states that paint correction was performed on the exterior. The hydraulic cylinders for the soft top were replaced last year.

Powder coated 15” basketweave wheels are mounted with 235/60 BFGoodrich tires up front and 235/60 Cooper Cobra rubber out back. The steering rack was replaced by the selling dealer, and the brakes were reportedly serviced with replacement lines, rotors, calipers, and pads.

The seating surfaces are trimmed in beige leather with red piping and are joined by matching door panels, gray carpeting, and wood trim on the center console, dash, and door panels. Amenities include power-adjustable and heated seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo.

A four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and vertically oriented auxiliary gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, fuel level, and amperage. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 22k miles, approximately 50 of which were added by the selling dealer.

The 5.3-liter HE V12 features electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 263 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque when new. Work performed by the selling dealer included replacement of the spark plugs and ignition wires, along with an oil change and a coolant flush.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional underside images are shown in the gallery.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
