This 1987 Jaguar XJ-SC is one of 422 targa-style cabriolets built for the Canadian market and is powered by a 5.3-liter V-12. This factory body style was produced in the mid-1980s as a lead-up to the true XJS convertible, and approximately 5,000 were produced in total. This example shows 101k indicated kilometers (~63k miles) and is offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner, a friend with whom it has spent the past three years. Recent work included a new power steering hose, fuel sending unit, and more as described below. The car is sold with a matching rear hardtop, records from new, period literature, and a clear Quebec title in the current owner's name.
The car was reportedly garage-stored and kept off the road during winter throughout its life. Nimbus White paint shines in photos under subtle pinstriping and accessory door guards. Touched-up blemishes are shown on the hood and driver's door, though no other repainting or bodywork has been carried out to the seller's knowledge. Factory 5-spokes wear 15″ Pirelli Cinturato rubber. Exterior lighting includes late-model flush headlights, one of which has a filled chip. A small piece is missing from the grille as shown in the photos below.
The SC was fitted with a targa bar along with bracing around the cockpit, bulkhead, and rear suspension. The landaulet-style top includes two removable roof panels and a folding rear section housing a clear plastic rear window. A boot cover is provided for use when the soft top is stowed. A matching removable rear hardtop with a heated glass window is also included and shown below.
Front bucket seats wore Isis Blue Connolly leather from the factory, while a package shelf was provided in lieu of rear seating. An aftermarket wood wheel and shifter handle have replaced the original items. Instrumentation includes a tach and km/h speedo, which are joined by drum-style secondary units, including a new oil pressure gauge. The 6-digit odometer shows 101k kilometers, over 21k of which have been added by the current owner. A Jaguar cassette deck remains mounted in the center stack along with a factory trip computer and switchgear. Interior lighting is shown to work in photos.
The 5.3-liter V-12 was equipped for the majority of XJ-SCs, originally producing 262 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. Shifting is through a GM-sourced automatic transmission. A recent service included replacement of a power steering hose, fuel sending unit, hood stays, and other small items as seen in the work order below.
Underbody photos show the general condition of the suspension, chassis rails, exhaust, and floors. Service records are said to go back to original ownership and are photographed below.
Documentation also includes the original bill of sale, owner's literature, and a period sales brochure. Vinyl covers are included for the removable roof panels and matching full-size spare wheel.
