This low-mileage 1994 Jaguar XJS 2+2 Convertible is believed to be one of only 56 sold in the U.S. that year with the five-speed manual transmission. Although the Carfax report indicates the seller as the car’s fourth owner, he clarifies that the first “two” owners were the same person in California, who first leased and then purchased the car. That owner relocated to the East Coast in 2001 and sold the Jag in 2009 to a friend, from whom the current owner bought it in March 2018. The seller says he has used the XJS only for occasional pleasure driving, keeping it garaged when not in use. He believes the first two owners also garaged the car and says the paint is original, with minor blemishes. He reports adding a new top shortly after buying the car five years ago and installing new tires in June 2018.
The owner believes that the Jaguar’s engine is original. He reports having the head gasket replaced at 54,900 miles in August 2019. Other items replaced at that time included head bolts, spark plugs, fluids, filters, and the distributor cap and rotor. He reports no issues with the cold start and says the fuel-injected engine idles properly at 800 rpm with no smoke reported. He indicates a “small leak” from the oil filter area only but no leaks or weeps from the drivetrain. The five-speed manual transmission is said to shift smoothly.
The seller states that the Jaguar has its original Black paint, with “no rust nor any signs of rust repairs.” He says, “The finish is standing up well, but there are a few minor paint chips and a scratched area on the passenger door, as shown in the photos.” He reports two blemishes on the trunk lid, also seen in photos. The replacement convertible top from 2018 is said to operate properly. The seller notes there are no chips or scratches in the glass and says seals remain in “good shape,” with no evidence of leaks. All lights and signals are said to work as designed.
The car’s carpet is in good condition with no holes or noticeable wear, and the original polished wood trim is intact. The Warm Charcoal seat leather is described as in good shape overall, with the driver’s seat showing some surface creasing and a wear mark on the outer bolster. He affirms there are no splits or tears in the seats and that the power seat adjustments work properly. “The headliner was refitted when the top was replaced, but the front third of it appears to sag slightly due to the insulation between the headliner and the roof’s outer layer,” he says. He confirms that the heat and A/C work, and all gauges function properly. The seller says the AM/FM of the original Jaguar-branded stereo still works, along with the power antenna and speakers, but not the cassette tape player. The power windows and locks all work as designed, he states.
The owner affirms that the vehicle’s suspension was recently inspected and “didn’t need servicing.” He says the shocks have “no leaks and no damaged bushings.” The seller indicates some pitting indicated, near the centers, for three of the original chromed alloy wheels. The fourth wheel has some peeling but no vibrations “at any speed.” The 225/60R16 Pirelli P4 all-season radials show late 2017 manufacturing dates, and the seller says they were installed in June 2018. The power-assisted steering is said to operate as designed, with no leaks, and the seller says the steering wheel is centered and tight, with no play. “The front brake pads were just replaced, and the antilock brake wheel-speed sensors were just checked, cleaned, and tested. The brake and clutch fluid were also flushed at that time,” the seller explains.
The seller states that this vehicle will be sold on a clean New Jersey title in his name. He will include the original window sticker and the original owner’s purchase-from-lease documents, as well as service receipts from all owners. The owner also states that a British Motor Heritage Certificate has been ordered but not yet received. Rare when new and rarely seen today, this low-mile, three-owner 1994 Jaguar XJS 2+2 Convertible offers the enjoyment of “rowing your own” with the five-speed manual transmission. The car appears to have been well cared for and is presented with no needs.
