Seller's description:
Legende, TWR, Hist. Fz., TÜV bis 04/26
Very special vehicle:
In the fall of 1983, the XJ-SC 3.6 was reintroduced, a convertible with a Targa roof and a folding rear window - initially with only the new AJ-6 six-cylinder, from 1985 also as the XJ-Sc 5.3 HE with the 5.3 HE V12. The conversion of the XJ-SC bodies was initially quite elaborate and made it necessary to transport back and forth between several plants. After some successful alterations in the plant, after about two years, everything could be fabricated at one location again. The customer freely continued to crave for an "ironless" convertible, which so far only existed as a retroactive conversion at Hess & Eisenhardt in the USA, Lynx in England and Ardenin Germany. The XJ-SC was therefore a transitional model, as Jaguar was working on developing a rigid full convertible based on the XJ-S 5.3 HE Coupe (Series 2) In February 1988, the XJ-S 5.3 V12 Convertible (Series 2) was then introduced to the world for the first time at the Geneva Automobile Salon as a full convertible. The prototype was developed on behalf of Jaguar together with the cover specialist Karmann in Osnabrück and is still in the Karmann collection today. The XJ-SC was not well received. Both the press and the market did not consider it as a full-fledged convertible. [1]The production figures for the XJ-SC 3.6 were approximately. 1088 pieces.
Since 1982, the Jaguar XJ-S TWR Racing was successfully used by the team Tom Walkinshaw Racing (TWR for short) in the European Touring Car Championship (ETCC) and won the European Championship title for the first time in 1984. Tom Walkinshaw himself was shortened to the European Driver Champion[2] - an honor that had always been denied to the predecessors of XK and E-Type. Since 1984, TWR has offered a rather distinctive TWR spoiler set for the XJ-S Coupe (Series 2) and the XJ-SC series. Using this TWR accessory, the new XJR-S 5.3 Coupe was created in England in spring 1988, which is technically similar to the XJ-S 5.3 HE V12. The launch of this model was celebrated with a special edition Le Mans limited to 50 copies (TWR had won in Le Mans shortly before with the Jaguar XJR-9).
