This car is a rare example of the special edition 6 litre XJR-S produced by JaguarSport; a collaboration between Jaguar cars and Tom Walkinshaw Racing. JaguarSport's uprated version of the 6 litre (5993 cc) V12 power unit delivers 318 BHP at 5250 rpm and a massive 362 lb.ft of torque. The car is equipped with a Zytek sequential injection and digital ignition engine management system developed directly from Jaguar's Group C racing programme.

The vendor is only the second owner of the car, which he bought in 2003. Until a few years ago the car was used regularly, and the vendor says that it was always a joy to drive and generally reliable. It has been regularly serviced and maintainted by a local Jaguar specialist. It is described as being in good condition, but it is not concours.

In March 2005, the vendor had an accident in the car, which resulted in it being a technical insurance write off. There was no agreed value, and the valuation at the time was quite low, but the vendor knew the car was special so took the decision to have it repaired. The damage was mainly bodywork, with no damage to the engine or main running gear. The repair was carried out very well and allowed a number of hidden rust issues to be sorted. The overall cost was well above the valuation. Apart from this repair, the car is substantially original and has had no alterations. In 2017, quite a lot of work was done on the car, including rebuilding the differential, new rear discs, replaced rusted radiator crossmember, renew all belts, and repair to drivers footwell. In 2018, the front wheel bearings, discs and pads have been renewed, and the oil cooler pipes also renewed. The car also has new tyres all round.

The car comes with the original handbook in its leather wallet. It has a fairly complete set of documentation, with MOT certificates back to 1997 and complete garage bills from the vendor's ownership. Most of the interior, including the roof lining, is in very good condition, but the leather on the driver's seat is worn and some of the carpeting on the driver's side needs attention.

This car drives superbly, has excellent road holding, is seriously quick and looks fabulous. Above all else, this is a real driver's car.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
