January 03, 2017 car offered at:
boise.craigslist.org/cto/5933301499.html
Sellers description:
Very Rare / JAGUAR / XjSc "Cabriolet" - $12750 (Nyssa, Oregon U.S.A.)
1988 Jaguar (Two Seater) XJ-SC "CABRIOLET". This is NOT a Convertible but a "Touring Roadster". When you do diligence, you will see that very few of these were produced (and were done so) as a Transition Car during that period of U.S. History when Convertibles were not produced or imported to the U.S. due to Strict Engineering Requirements of the D.O.T. for Safety Reasons. This is rapidly becoming one of the Most Collectable Jaguars. It features: Removable "T" Tops, Full Targa Roll Bar Cage, Removable Rear Hardtop with Electric Rear Window De-Icier, and Interchangeable Rear Soft Top. So, you have a Fully Enclosed "Coupe" or, a Fully / Partially Open Roadster with Roll Bar Protection. These Cars do not have a back seat but instead, they have a Luggage Platform with Lockable Storage Underneath.
From 1983 - 1988 there were 5,300 of them produced for world wide markets, mostly made with the dual overhead cam in-line 6 cylinder with the majority going to Germany and other European Countries. It was produced with the V-12 Engine ONLY in the 1987 & 1988 models. (Total Production is estimated at: 1,853 units). In Late 1988 - the Convertible was re-established and is still offered today in other Jaguar Models. 1988 was the final year for the XJ/SC Cabriolet. VIN SAJNA3841JC145772
Hagerty Value Tool grades these Cars as follows:
#1 ..... "Concours" (flawless) .................. $ 24,600.00
#2 ..... "Excellent" ................................... $ 15,400.00
#3 ..... "Good" ......................................... $ 9,500.00 and,
#4 ..... "Fair" . . .(needs major work) ......... $ 5,500.00
According to the "Market Trend" Chart in that Hagerty Article, this car has gone up in value almost $4,000.00 in the last 3 years.
This Car had an Original M.S.R.P. of: $45,480.00 (in 1988). I have been able to find 9 of these cars for sale in the U.S. (including mine) and they range from $3,000.00 (needing total restoration) to $31,000.00 in near Showroom Condition. There are Lots of XJS Fastbacks and XJS Convertibles available and they are quite common. But Almost NO XJ/SC Cabriolet's. .
On the Hagerty Chart above, My Car would rate at (approx.) 2.5 = "Better than Good but, Less than Excellent".
Its Color is Jaguar "Birch". This Car has Never Been Restored and is in extremely good All Original Condition. It has Under 86,000 miles and, with the exception of the Radio, is All Original and the Car is Rust Free. Car has the T-Tops, Including the T-Top Storage Envelopes, Removable Rear Hard Top and the Original Rear Soft Top.
Car comes with a set of 4 Jaguar Hard Bound Shop Manuals as well as ordinary Operators Manual.
3 owners since new. Sold originally by Jag Dealer in California to the Original Owner in the Bellingham, Washington area. Estate sold it to Car Collector in Oregon from whom I purchased it and it now has an Idaho Title.
The Following is a List of things that need attention on this car. (Repaired, Replaced or Adjusted). Car Runs & Shifts Well and Its General Condition is VERY GOOD for its age.
Rack & Pinion Steering "Bushings" need replaced. (Too Much Slack in the Steering). Not Expensive to Replace AND Very Common on the XJS models.
The Horn, Power Antenna and Cruise Control Do Not Work. (Probably the Switches need Replaced or could be as simple as cleaning the contacts on the Switches ). Gas Gauge and other Instruments also need Contacts Cleaned to operate properly.
Modest Repairs to the Cars Interior and Headliner. Soft Top Rear Window (plastic) needs replaced.
Will Soon Need: a Brake Master Cylinder and Brake Fluid Reservoir Tank. (Common on XJS models).
Body is Excellent and Paint is Very Good. Tires are 80+ % Tread. Brakes are Good.
Car has New Front Shock Absorbers, New Hood (Bonnet) Support Struts and New Battery.
Valve Covers and Crank Case (Oil Pan) Need Bolts Tightened. Gaskets should be replaced at same time.
Heater / AC control needs looked at. Previous owner had a more modern Radio installed and I think they left something unplugged. Heater is on all the time but Fan Speed Switch does not work.
I doubt that ANY of these things are major and Working on them is just one of the Joys of Owning a Classic British Car. I have yet to find any part that is not easily available either on-line or, from local and other Northwest Jaguar Dealers and, have not found them to be any more costly than a domestic car in its class.
