We have just received this gorgeous 1987 Jaguar XJ-SC on consignment. This is a superb one-owner car from California.
The seller custom ordered this car back in 1986. It was delivered to the Performance Jaguar dealership in San Diego, CA on February 9th, 1987.
The XJ-SC is a rare Cabriolet variant of the Jaguar XJ-S. It differs from the normal XJ-S by having removable targa panels and a convertible soft-top. This gave the XJ-SC very unique look and only five-thousand XJ-SC’s were ever produced.
We are told by the seller that he could have purchased any car he wanted at the time, but he wanted this exact XJ-SC in Bordeaux Red with Doeskin interior and the V12 engine.
After the custom order for the car was sent, the seller waited five months for delivery to the dealership.
The car was in Del Mar, California for most of it’s life and stored under a car cover in the seller’s climate-controlled facility.
In the beginning of this year, the car was shipped in an enclosed trailer to the seller’s residence here in Sarasota, Florida.
Although this car is the seller’s utmost pride and joy, he is getting up in age and has decided it’s time to sell.
The car now sits in our show room under a car cover.
The seller has maintained a plethora of documentation and Jaguar literature for this car.
This includes:
The original window sticker
Complete XJ-SC manuals
Several Jaguar handbooks
And much more
The factory original XJ-S V12 owners manual is in beautiful condition and does not have missing pages or tears. This manual and many of the other documents are neatly stored in the factory original Jaguar document holder.
On the window sticker, this car’s MSRP was $44,480 in 1987. A quick Google search and that’s $123,393 with today’s inflation rate.
The seller has kept every service record for this car since 1987. All of the maintenance was done at the same dealership he purchased this car from, Performance Jaguar in San Diego, CA.
The Jaguar Passport to Service booklet is intact as well and stamped by the Performance Jaguar dealership.
Shortly after the seller purchased this car, he had a cellular phone professionally installed by CelluLand. There are several pamphlets that include operating instructions and even a cell service coverage map from 1987.
Cellphones were not officially offered by Jaguar as an optional factory upgrade in this era.
In the glovebox is the factory original targa top screw removal tool, extra keys, and an unopened factory original auxiliary lighter adapter. The flip-up mirror works great and looks like new.
The interior is the factory original Doeskin (factory trim code AEE) and it’s in superb condition. The seats do not have any rips, tears, or stains and are very comfortable. The dashboard does not have any cracks or bubbles either and the wooden trim is excellent.
The instrument cluster works as it should and is crystal clear. The steering wheel is in beautiful condition too.
The targa tops and soft-top are both in fantastic condition. The targa tops do not have any rips or tears and are not missing any hardware. The soft-top looks like new and operates as it should. There are no leaks or issues.
The factory original radio is intact and sounds great too. There are no issues with the LCD display or radio buttons.
The paint is the factory original Bordeaux Red (factory color code CEK) and does not have any flaking or peeling. The color is deep and complex with some angles appearing as more of a warm red, while other angles appear as more of a cool red. The paint is stunning.
In the trunk, the factory original full-size spare looks like new and is in its original vinyl cover.
The carpeting does not have any rips, stains, or tears and there are no odors. The factory original jack and tools are stored in their original fabric matching pouch as well.
