Private Party Or Dealer: Dealer

This 1996 Jaguar XJS convertible is powered by a 4.0-liter inline-six mated to a four-speed automatic transmission, and it is finished in Topaz Pearl Metallic over Oatmeal leather upholstery. Equipment includes a limited-slip differential, a brown convertible top, 16″ alloy wheels, power-adjustable front seats, air conditioning, and an aftermarket Kenwood stereo. The car was first delivered to Chesapeake Jaguar of Cockeysville, Maryland, and it relocated to Connecticut in 2015 and was acquired by the selling dealer in February 2021. This final-year XJS shows under 54k miles and is now offered with manufacturer’s literature, a window sticker, a clean Carfax report, and Connecticut registration.

The exterior is finished in Topaz Pearl Metallic (SDN) and is equipped with a power-retractable brown soft top. Exterior features include a beige boot cover, heated glass rear window, chrome-accented bumpers and mirrors, and dual exhaust outlets with polished tips. The selling dealer notes inconsistencies in paint meter readings, and that the front spoiler has been repaired and painted black. A scratch is visible on the left corner of the rear bumper, as well as a crack in the left tail light.

Diamond turned 16″ alloy wheels said to be sourced from an earlier V12 model are mounted with 225/60 Cooper CS3 Touring tires, which the selling dealer states were recently installed. A matching alloy wheel mounted with a Pirelli tire is located in the trunk.

The interior features Oatmeal leather-upholstered power-adjustable front seats with Jaguar leapers embossed on the front headrests, adjustable lumbar support, and memory settings, while burl wood trim accents the cabin. Equipment includes cruise control, air conditioning, a quartz analog clock, power accessories, and an aftermarket Kenwood CD stereo. Wear is visible on the front seats and cracks are noted in the center console wood trim.

The four-spoke tilt steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and additional gauges displaying battery voltage, fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows under 54k miles, fewer than 100 of which were added by the selling dealer.

The 4.0-liter AJ6 inline-six features electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 245 horsepower and 289 lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited slip differential.

Manufacturer’s literature is included in the sale, along with a window sticker showing initial delivery to Chesapeake Jaguar of Cockeysville, Maryland, and a total price of $62,150.

The father of jokes about warm beer and smoke escaping from wires is Joseph Lucas. Lucas died of typhoid after drinking infected water in Naples in 1902.

What disease did Lucas succumb to?
