Offered for sale is a striking 1976 Jaguar XJ-S finished in a resprayed red exterior over a professionally restored black interior. With just 83,042 original miles, this early-production XJ-S retains its original 5.3L V12 engine and automatic transmission, both of which are in strong running condition.
This first-year model showcases the pure design of the original XJ-S before the later cosmetic and mechanical changes. The interior features high-quality vinyl seat upholstery, while the dash, instruments, and center console remain original and well-preserved.
Cosmetically, the body is in good condition overall, with two noted imperfections: a small rust area in front of the right rear wheel, and a dent at the front of the left rocker panel. The paint is in good driver-quality shape, and the vehicle has clearly been cared for. Flaws in the paintwork such as cracks, corroded chips, and touch-up can be seen in the photo gallery.
Whether you’re looking to enjoy a classic V12 grand tourer or restore it to concours level, this XJ-S is an excellent candidate.

This 1976 Jaguar XJS is a red-on-black example that is powered by a 5.3-liter V12 linked with a three-speed automatic transmission. The car is equipped with a limited-slip differential, MSD ignition, 15″ light-alloy wheels, front and rear bucket seats, and a Leaper hood ornament. Paintwork was performed and the seats were reupholstered under prior ownership. The seller acquired the car in 2010 and has since added approximately 500 of the 83k miles shown. This XJS is now offered at no reserve with a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The car was refinished in red under prior ownership and has been fitted with a Leaper hood ornament. Quad headlights, a front air dam, a remote-controlled left-side mirror, and dual polished exhaust outlets are also fitted. Paint chips around the gas cap were repaired in preparation for the sale. Noted flaws include bubbling on the right side of the car, a dent on the left rocker panel, a body tear on the left front wheel well, and cracks around the trunk key hole. Blemishes are depicted in the gallery below, photos were taken in 2025.
The 15″ GKN Kent light-alloy wheels are mounted with Toyo Extensa A/S tires. The car was factory equipped with power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering, anti-roll bars, and four-wheel disc brakes.
The bucket seats have been reupholstered in black vinyl, while brushed aluminum trim accents the dashboard. Appointments include power windows and a heated rear window. The air conditioning, cassette stereo, clock, windshield wipers, and turn signal indicators do not work. There are cracks in the dashboard, sun visors, and center console, and the right center vent tab is broken. A dent under the left floorboard is also noted.
The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation including a 160-mph speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and drum-style gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, voltage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows 83k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.3-liter V12 features aluminum cylinder heads and Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection for a factory rating of 285 horsepower and 294 lb-ft of torque. An MSD ignition controller has been installed. Components for the air conditioning system have been disconnected, and loose fuel-injector connections were repaired in preparation for the sale.
